Benjamin Kamino

Benjamin Kamino identifies as a dancer and bases himself in Montreal, Canada. He maintains four active touring works -- a solo entitled Nudity. Desire, a duet with his mother Gabby Kamino entitled m/Other, a group work entitled real’s fiction and a duet commissioned by Kaeja d’Dance entitled with. His work has been presented across Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Uruguay, Portugal, Austria, Australia, the United States, the Netherlands, and Ireland. Kamino often collaborates with other artists, most notably with artists Lars Jan, Clara Furey,  Sook-Yin Lee, and Virgil Baruchel. As a dancer Kamino has been fortunate to work under the direction of artists Marie Chouinard, Ame Henderson, Jennifer Mascall, Peggy Baker, Robin Poitras, Antonija Livingstone, Aszure Barton, Paula de Vasconcelos, and Michael Trent. Kamino was one of two inaugural curators at Dancemakers Centre for Creation in Toronto from 2014 - 2015. Kamino teaches technique and choreography both nationally and internationally. He is the recipient of the 2016 TAF Emerging Artist Award, the 2013 Dance:MIC Audience Choice Award, and the 2009 DanceWeb Scholarship. Kamino holds a BFA in Dance from the Tisch School of the Arts and an MA in Choreography from DAS Graduate School. Kamino would like to list in thanks those artists who continuously emerge through his own proclivities: Peggy Baker, Ame Henderson, Marten Spangberg, Alice Chauchat, Bracha L. Ettinger, Michael Trent, Su-Feh Lee, Brynn McNab, Sook-Yin Lee, Sher Doruff, Tehching Hsieh, Jay Hirabayashi, Christopher Willes, Esthel Vogrig, Ana Trincao, Robert Abubo, and Amanda Acorn.

For Peggy Baker Dance Projects: Benjamin danced the repertory works In the Fire of Conflict, and Encoded Revision, and originated roles in who we are in the dark, land | body | breath,  Split Screen Stereophonic, and Night Garden.
