Christopher House
choreographer and dancer

Christopher House is a choreographer, performer, director, educator, and curator. Born and raised in St. John’s, NL, he graduated from the University of Ottawa with a degree in Political Science and subsequently received a BFA in Dance from York University. He was resident choreographer and a leading dancer with Toronto Dance Theatre from 1979-2020, the last twenty-six years as Artistic Director. He has worked with many companies and artists including The National Ballet of Canada, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, Ballet Gulbenkian, Artistic Fraud of Newfoundland, Cirque du Soleil, Kimsooja, Dance Collection Danse, and The Hidden Cameras. His choreographies have been performed in nineteen countries worldwide. He has had a long career as a performer, most notably with Ame Henderson, Jordan Tannahill, and post-modern icon Deborah Hay. Since leaving TDT he has focused on solo performance, teaching creative practice, and on research and curation projects.  He has received many awards for his work and is a long-time Associate Dance Artist of the NAC and a member of the Order of Canada.
